Fears

"The only thing we have to fear is FEAR itself - nameless, unjustified, terror which paralyzes needed effort to convert retreat into advance."

If it were easy to let go of fear, no one would every have any. We fear the unknown, we fear the mistakes we make because we know that we are not perfect which may lead to disappointing those we care about the most and we fear what others will think.

We turn ourselves inside of ourself so that no one can see what is really going on but also because we do not want to be a bother. Somehow we convince ourselves that we are not worthy of anything that is good, true and pure.

So, as we are our worse enemies we do not realize that the people on the outside who care about us are trying to break down the walls we have built to keep them out.

We are loved, they is support and they do want to help. The only thing standing in our way is us. It is that paralyzing fear that makes us lose the best part of ourself. We forget all that is good and focus on all the bad. We make up reasons to not go out, to not have visitors and to believe that we can be okay.

FEAR - is strong and it is a battle that cannot be allowed to win. I let my fears take control my life and everyday it has been a battle. I do not want to be that person who is fearful of everything, everyone and all the time. I want to just breathe and let things happen.

I started to think about a "PRO'S and CON'S list" This is what I think, make a list of fears and a list of how you want to SMASH THEM! You do not have to do it all in one day. Start small and work your way through them.

Please do not get me wrong we are always going to have fears, big or small but what we do with them has to count for something. It has to be better then allowing them to take over ourselves and do stupid things to other and ourself.

The Beginning Of My List:

Fear - to learn how to drive! Pro - will continue to learn how to drive and get my license!

Fear - to let people in! Pro - making baby steps now to let as many people in as I can!

Fear - to forgive myself! Pro - more baby steps to get to that point!

I believe it is a start! I have to remind myself to JUST BREATHE!

  1. Fear is a distressing negative sensation induced by a perceived threat. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger. In short, fear is the ability to recognize danger leading to an urge to confront it or flee from it (also known as the fight-or-flight response) but in extreme cases of fear (terror) a freeze or paralysis response is possible. Some psychologists such as John B. Watson, Robert Plutchik, and Paul Ekman have suggested that fear belongs to a small set of basic or innate emotions. This set also includes such emotions as joy, sadness, and anger. Fear should be distinguished from the related emotional state of anxiety, which typically occurs without any certain or immediate external threat.
  2. Additionally, fear is frequently related to the specific behaviors of escape and avoidance, whereas anxiety is the result of threats which are perceived to be uncontrollable or unavoidable.[1] It is worth noting that fear almost always relates to future events, such as worsening of a situation, or continuation of a situation that is unacceptable. Fear can also be an instant reaction to something presently happening. All people have an instinctual response to potential danger. This emotion is described as fear and it is pre-programmed into all people.[2] Fear, whatever its source, can become a controlling factor in a person’s life.[3] Fear can channel one’s energies away from areas of perceived threats and into directions that seem safe.[4] - from wikipedia
